Debit Card Scam Alert-
A debit card phishing scam was reported by the Barron County, WI Sheriff's department this week. Citizens from all over the county and surrounding areas indicate they are receiving calls from an automated system asking them to reactivate their debit card. The automated message indicates, "Your Debit Card has been restricted. To reactivate your debit card for shopping and ATM usage, please call our security department or press 1 now and you will be transferred to our security department." The message may also ask the person to enter their debit card number using their phone keypad. This is a phishing scam trying to get the person's debit card information. DO NOT PRESS 1. DO NOT give out your debit card number.
